Sealed Units
From time to time sealed units will ‘break down’ or ‘mist up’ and can look unsightly. They are usually covered under guarantee from the installation company, for a period of 5 or 10 years.
It is always best to contact the company who installed the glass originally to clarify whether the units are covered.
It is unfortunate in the window industry, that there are a lot of companies, which over the years have ceased trading and there are thousands of customers who are left with windows, doors and conservatories without a guarantee.
We can help, where required, by replacing sealed units or even repairing units if they are coloured, leaded units that need to match other units, i.e. bay windows and door assemblies.
Due to ever increasing fuel bills, energy efficiency and global warming, the glass companies worldwide have been working tirelessly to improve thermal efficiency of glass in order to control heat loss through windows, doors and other glass structures.
The sealed units available now are more than twice as efficient as was used in standard double glazing and four times more efficient than single glazing.
Typical thermal heat loss is measured in ‘u’ values:
-
Standard traditional single glazing has a typical u value of around 5.0 w/m3
-
Standard traditional double glazing has a typical u value of around 3.2 w/m3
-
New thermally efficient double glazing has a typical u value as low as 1.1 w/m3
There are various types of glazing available to suit individual needs and wants, heat retaining, heat reflecting, extra security, noise reducing and many other types, please ask for more information.
If your windows are a few years old it may be that you have standard double glazed units fitted and you could be losing a lot of heat through the windows. Having new sealed units could save you £££'s in heating bills by keeping more of the heat in your home rather than letting it escape.
